Description
During the Assyrian Empire (900-612BC), doors and gateways were thought of as key locations through which good or evil influences might enter. The building of gateways was accompanied by elaborate ceremonies designed to bring good luck. Spirit Guardians were carved on either side of these entrances to protect them from evil. This guardian relief now resides in the British Museum.
