Description
Begun in the 1600s,Castillo de San Cristóbal, or San Christobal, is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was built by Spain to protect against land based attacks on the city of San Juan and is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the New World. Flying over the top of the fort are the flags of the United States of America, Puerto Rico, and the Cross of Burgundy Flag. The Burgundy Cross, one of the banners of Spain used by the Spanish militia from the fifteenth century until 1843, is flown over the fort in tribute.
